It is essential for students to learn the process of flowers. Even though flowers are pretty and fragrant they have extremely important purposes
WHY FLOWERS AND PLANTS ARE IMPORTANT:
1. Flowers play a major role in the changing of seasons.
2. Provide food and vitamins for animals and humans for nourishment.
3. Allow for pollination to occur, which play a role in producing the next generation of seeds.
4. Used in many different medicines.
5. Flowers are parts of plants, which help to produce oxygen for humans to breathe.
LESSON PLANS
Educators should provide the students with fun and knowledge filled lesson plans that will help to motivate them throughout the unit. Educators MUST incorporate different learning styles into their lesson plans and make any necessary accommodations for students with disabilities because EVERY STUDENT learns differently. I integrated the visual learning style by having the students watch an interesting youtube video. I also provided the students with many pictures and visuals of flowers on the Smartboard. Additionally, I incorporated the auditory learning style by talking to the students about the importance of pollination and bees. Lastly, I included the kinesthetic learning style into my unit plan by having the students become more proactive by having them create their own flowers, do a flower press, walk around the school and observe flowers, and come up to the Smartboard to complete the flower parts. This unit plan is not only going to help students gain knowledge but will also help to prepare students for future work with plants. Learning about plants and flowers will help to educate the students. Students must learn about growth of plants because they play a major role in our lives.
SCIENCE STANDARDS: This unit will help to encourage students learn about the growth and development of flowers as well as their parts, pollination and photosynthesis through observing and recording data. (5.3.2.D.2: determine the characteristic changes that occur during the life cycle of plants and animals by examining a variety of species, and distinguish between growth and development and 5.3.2.D.1: Record the observable characteristics of plants and animals to determine the similarities and differences between parents and their offspring and 5.3.p.D.1: Observe and record change over time and cycles of change that affect living things)
